He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” Colossians 1:17

The gentlemen in front of me had started a line, and since I was second, I started a conversation. It didn’t take long to find out that, when it came to the meaning of life and how it came to be, we were at opposite ends of the life’s spectrum. I believe and know Jesus Christ, the Son of God, personally. He did not. It got silly when he started an argument about how my Savior doesn’t really exist!

Having never tried this new strategy out before, I figured, “what have I got to lose?” So I asked him a question. “Do you consider yourself to be a perfect man? A man with no sin or error in your life?” It took him about 1.2 seconds to declare that no, he was NOT perfect.” When I asked him how he would fair standing before a Perfect God, he pondered for a few seconds. It was then that I lost him.

It didn’t take long for him to tell me that the Bible was written by men and contained many errors and inconsistencies. When he told me, for example, about the ‘3’ recorded incidents’ of the ‘so called’ Jesus birth story, and the fact that there is no historical record of Jesus, I laughed and said the only thing I COULD say, “you haven’t really read the Bible have you?” “Well there is no God, he said.”

When I talked about science and how the world and all of creation prove God’s existence because of the absolute order of it’s laws and physics, he said, “I know science better than you, and I tell you this is all evolution.” When I used the fine Swiss watch approach, that all the gears and order PROVE a watch MAKER. He balked again and called me ignorant. I pointed to my heart and said “God’s here!”

I stopped the conversation and let it go. I already saw he had all the answers he was ever going to receive… by choice. I turned the conversation around to what was going on around us and made a few jokes. Soon we were smiling and joking together… sans Jesus! But I just couldn’t see how he couldn’t see that ‘perfect systems’ and ‘order’ CANNOT happen by accident! It takes a Creator.

Today’s verse reminded me of the well done video by Louie Giglio entitled, “How Great is Our God.” I remembered it and smiled, not because I thought that guy would finally get it if he just watched it. I knew he wouldn’t. I smiled because I personally KNOW the one who holds me, and the universe, together. At Christmas time, it feels SOOO GOOD to be held! Are YOU snuggling with Jesus?

Here’s the shorter version of the video explaining what hold us together. Share it with everyone!
